Swim England

As of April the ASA started using their new name, Swim England.

The Amateur Swimming Association remains their constitutional name, but they will use Swim England on all their internal and external communications, including their website.

Swim England is the national governing body for swimming in England. It helps people learn how to swim, enjoy the water safely, and compete in all its sports.

Thursday Night Sessions – Final session 9th March 2017

It has recently become clear that we are unable to maintain the current demands on our coaching volunteers.

As a result, the Club’s Committee has now taken the difficult decision to cancel our booking at The Heights on Thursday evenings as of the 10th March 2017 – our last session will therefore be Thursday 9th March 2017.

We are currently enjoying additional pool time on a Sunday evening in a combined session with West Wight Swimming Club and look to continue that relationship moving forward. We are also exploring other ways that we can offer our members the option of increased pool time and hope to make an announcement shortly.

As part of our commitment to expanding our volunteer base we are currently seeking expressions of interest for persons to undertake a Level 1 Coaching course at Waterside Pool.

If you are interested in undertaking the course and would like to volunteer for the Club, or have further questions, please in the first instance contact Julie Van der Helstraete, Club Secretary at clubsecretary@seaclosesc.co.uk

British Long Distance Swimming Association – One Hour Postal Swim

British Long Distance Swimming Association – One Hour Postal Swim

Seaclose SC has decided to make available lanes on the following Saturday mornings between 6.45 and 7.45 for those interested in entering the BLDS hour postal swim.

The proposed Saturday mornings are:

  • 21st January
  • 28th January
  • 4th February
  • 11 February
  • 19th February

Please can you let us know by EMAIL only via clubsecretary@seaclosesc.co.uk two preferred dates and we will try to accommodate you as best we can.

For those who have never entered, the objective of the swim is for individual swimmers to achieve the greatest possible distance within one hour.  Swimmers are split into different age categories which are calculated on ages on 1st January, in the year of the swim (ie 2017 this time) as follows:

Under 10’s                Open                          35 – 39 years            55 – 59 years            75 – 79 years

10 – 11 years            20 – 24 years            40 – 44 years            60 – 64 years            80 – 84 years

12 – 13 years            25 – 29 years            45 – 49 years            65 – 69 years            85 years plus

14 – 15 years            30 – 34 years            50 – 54 years            70 – 74 years

The cost is £4.00 per swimmer which should be paid by bank transfer before you complete your swim.   Each swimmer must also have their own length counter with them who should be a responsible adult.  This person will record the number of lengths swum.  The club will then submit the sheets to the BLDSA by 1 March, by which time all the swims must have been completed.

Any questions please ask either Gavin Muncaster or Julie Van der Helstraete.
