September sessions – 1st to 10th Sept

The following sessions will take place in the week before Medina Pool closes for the plant room work:

Tuesday 4th 6.00-7.30 & 19.00-20.00 (Juniors) / 19.00-21.00 (Seniors)
Wednesday 5th 6.00-7.30
Thursday 6th 6.00-7.30
Friday 7th 19.00-21.00 (until 20.00 for Juniors)
Saturday 8th am 6.30 – 8.30
Sunday 9th evening 17.00-19.00

There will be NO junior squad training on Sunday AM. Swimmers are encouraged to attend on Saturday AM instead.

Details for sessions whilst Medina pool is shut are still being confirmed.

Summer Break 2018

As we come into the Summer break please take note of the following dates. 

Lessons

Lessons finish the weekend of 21/22 July. These will return after the summer break on the weekend of 13th/14th October and when the planned works at Medina Leisure centre are completed. All swimmers will be contacted nearer the time confirming times / dates of the first week back.

Squads

Squad sessions will continue until Sunday 29th July. 

There will be training on the mornings of Wednesdays 15th, 22nd and 29th August.

Training will start again on Saturday 1st September through to the pool closure on September 10th. 

With Medina pool closed from 10th September for three weeks alternative sessions will be arranged during this month. Please keep an eye on Facebook and the website for updates.

Isle of Wight Festival 2018 arrangements

Whilst the Isle of Wight Festival is on this coming weekend Medina Leisure centre will be closed.

The last session before the festival will be on Thursday am (21st) and starts again on Tuesday (26th)

There will be no training Friday night, and no squads or lessons on Saturday or Sunday.

On Thursday morning the festival traffic arrangements will be in place so you can only get to the pool from the Wootton direction  – https://www.iow.gov.uk/documentlibrary/download/isle-of-wight-festival-traffic-plan-map-2018

Easter Break 2018

Over the easter period there will be no swimming on the following dates:

Lessons

No lessons on easter weekend – 31st March or 1st April. Lessons are on as normal the following weekend, 7th/8th April.

Squads

There will be NO squad sessions from Good Friday (30th) through to Friday 6th inclusive. Squads will start again as normal on Saturday 7th April.

This includes morning and evening sessions.

Hampshire Swimming Championships 2018

Over the last three weekends seven swimmers from Seaclose Swimming Club qualified and competed at Portsmouth in both age group and youth championships.

Island Games swimmer Abigail Lacey (16 years age group) lead the way winning four individual Championship titles and also collecting 2 silver and 2 bronze medals along the way. Abi was Hampshire Champion in 50m Breaststroke (35.99 sec), 50m Butterfly (30.49 sec), 100m Breaststroke (1.17.58) and 200 Individual Medley (2 min 31.65 sec). Silver medals were achieved in the 100m Freestyle (1 min 02.41 sec) and 100m Butterfly (1 min 08.41 sec) with Bronze medals in the 200m Breaststroke (2 min 55.12 sec) and 50m Freestyle (29.41 sec).

Fellow Island Games swimmer Megan King (17 years age group) also picked up a medal, collecting a bronze medal in the 50m Breaststroke event (37.63 sec). Lelayna Blacklock and Amber Backhouse (17 years age group) both competed individually with Lelayna achieving 6th in the 800m Freestyle and Amber 9th in the 100m Breaststroke event. All four girls then teamed up to swim in the 4 x 100m Freestyle relay where they finished a creditable 9th place.

Zac Lacey also competed for the first time as a Multi-Classfication disability swimmer at the Championships and collected a silver medal in the 100m Butterfly event in a time of 1 min 44.09 sec.

Seaclose’s youngest swimmers George Hayward and Oliver Lacey (both 12 years age group) were in action over the first two weekends with George suffering from illness he withdrew during the second weekend but still managed a best result of 12th in both the 200m Individual Medley and 100m Butterfly. Oliver produced his best result in the 200m Butterfly to finish 6th and take 19 secs of his personal best in a time of 3 min 24.81 sec.
