2018 Club Champs Results

All champs results for Seaclose Swimming Club will be available from this page when sessions are complete.

Session 1 – Sunday 28th October – 1500 Freestyle, well done all swimmers.

Session 2 – Saturday 3rd November – 50 Back, 100 Free, 200 IM, 50 Breast, 100 Fly.

Session 3 – Sunday 4th_November – 50 Free, 100 Back, 200 Free, 50 Fly, 100 Breast.

Session 4 – Tuesday_6th_November – 200 Backstroke, 100 I.M, 200 Fly

Session_5_Friday 9th_November – 400 Free, 400 I.M.

Session_6 -Sunday 11th_November  – 200 Breast, 800 Free

Great swims by all Seaclose swimmers, with over 200 PB’s for swimmers across the sessions.

Reminder – Club Champs 2018

As a reminder for everyone the Club Champs begin on Sunday evening (28th October).

These are being run over the next couple of weeks. We have tried to avoid disruption to sessions as much as possible – however there will be no training on the following nights when the pool is being used for the champs:

  • Sunday 28th October
  • Sunday 4th November
  • Tuesday 6th November
  • Friday 9th November
  • Sunday 11th November

Additionally as there are events on Saturday 3rd November and Sunday 4th November there will be no squad session on the morning on Saturday 3rd November.

Long Course Training

We have secured two lanes of long course training on the 6th October, 24th November and 22nd December at Portsmouth. Training time on each day will be 7.25pm-8.45pm.

Sessions will be open for Pre-Senior, Senior and Masters swimmers initially with Juniors of there is space to. 

The club is covering the cost of the pool hire and if attending swimmers will need to make their own way to the pool.

Sessions during Medina Leisure Centre Closure – Updated

The club are arranging sessions where possible whilst Medina Leisure centre is closed.

To be able to run sessions we need to confirm availability of coaches, lifeguards and available pool time. We are able to confirm the sessions below and will add more where possible. With limited availability all squads can attend all sessions below.

West Wight swimming club have kindly agreed we can attend some of their sessions – if you do attend please remember to listen to the coaches an that you may be sharing a lane with more people than normal.

Available Sessions

Saturday 22nd September at The Heights. 6.30-8.00am. 
Saturday 29th September at The Heights. 6.30-8.00am. 
Saturday 6th October at The Heights. 7.00-8.30am. (Provisional in the case Medina Leisure centre is not back open)

Tuesday evenings through the closure. 6.30pm to 8.30pm at West Wight Leisure Centre. 

Friday 21st September at West  Wight Leisure Centre 6.30-8.30pm.
Friday 28th September at West  Wight Leisure Centre 6.30-8.30pm.

Additionally

For Senior and Pre-Senior Swimmers Ryde Swimming Club have sessions on Wednesday evenings at 8-9pm, and Fridays 7.30-8.30pm. Swimmers will need to pay £2 per session if attending please.

Some Sunday evening sessions will be running – this is waiting on confirmation of pool times before we can confirm.

The following sessions will take place in the week before Medina Pool closes for the plant room work:

Tuesday 4th 6.00-7.30 & 19.00-20.00 (Juniors) / 19.00-21.00 (Seniors)
Wednesday 5th 6.00-7.30
Thursday 6th 6.00-7.30
Friday 7th 19.00-21.00 (until 20.00 for Juniors)
Saturday 8th am 6.30 – 8.30
Sunday 9th evening 17.00-19.00

There will be NO junior squad training on Sunday AM. Swimmers are encouraged to attend on Saturday AM instead.

Details for sessions whilst Medina pool is shut are still being confirmed.

IW Champs 2018 Report

New records set at IW Swimming Championships.

The last two weekends have seen a busy schedule of events for Isle of Wight Swimmers as the Isle of Wight swimming Championships took place at Medina Leisure Centre. The championships are contested over in age groups from age 10 and for all four strokes over 100 metres along with 200m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley.

Abigail Lacey (15-16 Age Group) lead the way with four new Isle of Wight Championship Records from her six events. Abi became the first ever female in Isle of Wight Championships history to break the 1 minute barrier in the 100m Freestyle event when she broke Elizabeth Kreuz’s record from 2000 which Abi lowered from 1 min 00.60 sec to record a new time of 59.40 sec. Abi also set new records in 200m Individual Medley breaking Lottie James 2015 record in a time of 2 min 27.76 secs, 200m Freestyle breaking Rosie Gard’s 2005 record in a time of 2 min 08.90 secs and 100m Butterfly breaking C Franklins 1994 record in a time of 1 min 05.46 sec. Abi also collected gold medals in the 100m Backstroke and Breaststroke events to collect maximum points in the overall points trophy.

Each swimmer collects points for their event finishes with a top swimmer in each age group collecting the points trophy.

15-16 Years – Jacob Jenner – Ryde SC

17-18 Years – James Dziuba – Ryde SC

The swimmers will now wind down their seasons with Grace Poynter, Abigail Lacey and Megan King off to British and National Championships. Then swimmers will begin their efforts for the 2018/19 season in September with Island Games qualification a focus for many.
